GESTURES

Gestures is a project about the artistic urge expressed through spontaneity.
It’s an ongoing process about reaching out to the inner child that lies within us all.
Through an ‘unlearning’ method which makes room for intuition I could dance into action
so to value a fast, non-pondered gesture as an active (and wise!) maker of the composition.
All the paintings aim to bring out the joy of playing and to allow personal visions while stimulating imagination.
The different outcomes underline the freedom in the process while resonating with the multifaceted aspects of ourselves.
The palette is limited in order to explore the main polarities we experience in life:
light /darkness and feminine/masculine: pulsing, twirling and merging as an ancestral dance.
Such palette was originally inspired by a photo study on the vibrant contrast between reds and blues,
which makes me particularly feel alive and eager to create.
The photos involved in the process share with the paintings the same immediate and spontaneous approach. They were indeed shooted unstaged in unexpected moments wherever I found reds and blues striking me by overlapping or sitting next to each other.
It felt natural at some point to pull photos and paintings together and allow for a conversation to unfold.
Solo show at Oasis Gallery, Ballydehob, Ireland in July-August 2023.
